Why? Because today is Teaching Tolerance’s Mix It Up at Lunch Program, a national campaign that helps K-12 teachers develop inclusive school communities by encouraging students to mix up their typical lunch seating routine and get to know someone new.
The philosophy behind this great initiative is simple – by mixing up the normal social interactions, students will get to know another person, and the chances of friendship and inclusion increase dramatically.
Interested in bringing this program to your school community? Teaching Tolerance provides free Mix It Up lessons and activities—”Mixers“—for teachers to use to organize a successful Mix It Up at Lunch Day and promote social border crossing all year long.
Adults can Mix It Up too! Try finding a new lunch buddy this week and do your part to create a better work environment.
Teach tolerance while you share a sandwich!
